What type of X-ray technology is used for implant placement?

Posted on 1/19/2012 by Dr. Franco
X Ray used for implants in Irving,TXMany patients considering dental implants In Irving, TX often have questions about the X-ray technology used during an implant procedure. Our office uses a state-of-the-artCone Beam CTscanner, or CBCT, which is used to scan oral structures and create three-dimensional images. This technology helps the implant dentist analyze the bone density of the edentulous area and gives the dentist a clear idea on how to angle the titanium post.

Computed tomography (CT) imaging is also termed as computed axial tomography (scan). This involves rotating X-ray equipment and a digital computer. Both are used to obtain cross-sectional images of the human body’s organs and tissues. This technologically advanced device gives the doctor or dentist clear images of each type of tissue. It can also provide a view of bone, soft tissue and muscles.

TheCone Beam CTscanner is a faster and more compact device. It is also the safer version of computerized tomography devices. A cone shaped X-ray beam is used and the radiation dosage is greatly reduced. Since it is so compact, the CBCT scanner can be incorporated into a dentist’s office and used during the placement of dental implants.

With the use of aCone Beam CTscanner, the implant dentist will be able to attach the dental implants precisely and reduce the margin of error with regard to angulation. Inserting dental implants into the alveolar bone is a task that requires steady hands and precision. The use of the CBCT scanner is your implant dentist’s way of ensuring properly placed and aesthetically perfect prosthetic teeth. Thanks to this advancement in technology, edentulous patients can show off their straight “pearly whites” and throw away the denture paste.
