 Many patients who are missing their entire set of upper or lower teeth think that they’ll be relegated to removable dentures for the rest of their lives. That’s no longer the case. Now, those patients have the option of permanent dentures that are anchored by dental implants. The news gets even better, too. These implants can be placed in a single appointment with the implant dentist.Before you can get new teeth in a day, you will first visit our Irving, TX implant dentist for a consultation during which the dentist takes images of your teeth then uses digital imaging software to plan the surgical placement of the implants. This step helps the dentist be more precise when the time comes to insert the implants and streamlines the procedure. In most cases, four implants are sufficient to secure a denture for an entire arch. The dentist will also gather information that will then be passed along to the dental laboratory that will be constructing your replacement arch of teeth. At your next appointment, you will actually get the implants. They can be inserted using a tiny incision, which is less traumatic to the mouth and allows the replacement arch to be placed atop the implants that day. If any extractions are necessary before implant placement, they can be done at this appointment as well. This approach is a major improvement over traditional removable dentures. Because the dentures are secured by the implants, you don’t need to worry that you’ll be embarrassed when your dentures slip in public. Although you may also have to eat a modified soft food diet for the first few weeks after the procedure, eventually you’ll be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods again.
