![]() How do my teeth keep my facial structure strong?A natural tooth has a root that bridges your tooth to your jawbone. Your jawbone is full of living cells that constantly rebuild, keeping it strong. When you use your teeth for chewing and talking, you are helping this bone rejuvenate. As you use your teeth, you apply motion and pressure to your roots which then passes that motion and pressure to your jawbone. When a tooth is lost, and the root is lost, the bone no longer receives this stimulation of motion and just like any muscle or bone in your body, without motion, it atrophies. Known as bone resorption, the bone quickly responds to inactivity by pulling in its resources and no longer rebuilding the cells in that area. As a result, the area shrinks. This may not be very noticeable with a single missing tooth, but as more and more teeth are lost, the effects become clear. Decreased jawbone size has become synonymous with being older, so, when we observe a sunken or fallen facial structure, we visually assume the person to be older. Loose dentures may provide the teeth portion, but they do not provide the root portion, the part that applies pressure to your bone, keeping it healthy. Preserving Facial Structure With The All-on-4® Treatment ConceptThe All-on-4® Treatment Concept can reverse those effects and help you maintain your facial shape. By placing four implanted posts in either your upper or lower jaw, we are creating a connection between your teeth and your jaws. These points of impact tell your bone that those important rebuilding cells are once again needed to help your bone strengthen and rebuild. The placement of dental implants is not only beneficial to your comfort and function, but they are also important to your oral health after the loss of your natural teeth. Dr. Franco can help you have teeth that will allow you to chew, improve your speech, and give you the confidence that you have lacked since the loss of your natural teeth. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept is easier than you think, our staff at BiteLock can show you how. |
