Bar-Retained Implant Supported Denture

Posted on 11/1/2017 by Dr. Franco
There are a great number of options for our patients when dealing with finding a replacement option for all of their teeth. You have likely heard of traditional dentures or permanent dentures, but there are other options as well for removable dentures that still utilize the strength of implants or other dental appliances. Here at BiteLock, Dr. Pedro Franco can help you to find the best option for your specific needs and oral health goals. Give us a call today and find out which option may be best for you.

What is a Bar-Retained Implant Supported Denture?

When it comes to removable dentures, there are a variety of options that give you the chance to receive the strength that comes with implants mixed with the easy cleaning of removable dentures. One of these options is a bar-retained, but implant supported a denture. This system utilizes three or four implants that are attached to a bar. This bar is custom made for your mouth and your specific needs, following your jaw line.

When your dentures are made, they are made with a series of clips on the bottom. These attach securely to the bar in your mouth (which is permanent) to ensure a strong support to keep your dentures from falling out and giving you a wider range of uninhibited eating and speaking abilities. These are used on either the upper or lower jaw, and are great because the denture can be removed for easy cleaning and then our patients simply have to brush the bar itself!

Benefits of a Bar-Retained Implant Supported Denture

There are a variety of benefits that come along with combining two elements to make a strong yet removable appliance. First of all, it gives you a function that is incredibly similar to natural teeth. This prosthesis is very stable and strong, and will not shift around the way that a traditional denture might. Because it is completely implant supported, there is no pressure being exerted on your gums. This means that they will not rub and cause sore spots. Because they are implant based, this also means that they are constantly stimulating your jawbone. This eliminates bone loss which would happen with non-implant supported dentures. Over time, this leads to a healthier mouth overall and means that you won’t suffer the same cosmetic ill-effects that come alongside traditional dentures, like sinking lips and cheeks.

There is also the matter of the life of your dentures. Eventually, all dentures fail. However, the bar is permanent, and with proper care and daily brushing, as you would with teeth, we can replace the dentures without having to replace the bar! This means we can get you back on your feet not only quickly, but also at a good price. The new dentures will fit and clip on just like the old ones did should you sustain any damage, and you will be good as new in no time!

If these sound like a good option to you, be sure to give us a call here at BiteLock and see what Dr. Pedro Franco can do for you. We want you to have your health and confidence back just as much as you do, and we will have you walking out of here smiling like there is no tomorrow. Give us a call today!
