Here at BiteLock, Dr. Pedro Franco has you covered throughout your entire procedure. We have years of experience under our belts making us not only careful and knowledgeable but also adept at making your experience the most comfortable it can be. Our implants utilize titanium, the most commonly used implant material. There are a variety of reasons that this metal has the edge over any other possible material.

What is an Implant?

A dental implant is a basis to our BiteLock permanent denture system. This is a titanium post that we can surgically install in the socket left behind by a missing tooth. This acts as the root of a false tooth or denture system. Titanium, we have found, is the best material to use.

Why is Titanium the Best?

There have been a variety of different metals and materials experimented with before the decision to use titanium. Throughout history, there have been dentists trying different things, such as gold and alloys. None of them, though, bonded well with the bone. Then, titanium was discovered to have amazing integration properties by a surgeon who found that he could not separate a titanium piece he had installed on the femur of a rabbit for repairs.

The bone had grown around it. A live volunteer then allowed him to use this newfound technology to create a dental implant that was able to fuse fully with the jawbone. This was the first time we were able to create a permanent solution that not only stayed put but grew with the patient.

Titanium has been proven to bond best with bone, meaning that it will be locked in place once it heals. This is also important because titanium can be made in two pieces. This means that they are much more versatile, and can be used with more appliances that sit in the mouth than a one-piece counterpart may be able to support.

There is more room for error, and in fact, the implant itself can be set at a slight angle (which is sometimes a surgical necessity based on bone density), and a custom support can remedy it. Should a graft be needed after the implant is placed, usually with a titanium implant, it can be left in place and grafted around. Other one piece implants may not have this ability.

Finally, because a titanium implant can be buried under the gums to heal, it has less chance of being bumped or bothered. If that happened, it would not fuse or osseointegrate correctly. This gives it an edge over one piece systems that remain above the gum-line.

Here at BiteLock, Dr. Pedro Franco helps find a treatment plan for each and every patient, and we are sure to make a decision that works well for you and your individual needs. We want you happy, healthy, and comfortable in your smile once again, and we can help you find out if titanium implants are your best bet. Please, give us a call today and see what we can offer you.
