Zygomatic Implants For Fixed Dentures

Posted on 11/1/2017 by Dr. Franco
Dental implants have a wide range of uses. They provide a sturdy base for crowns, bridges, and even full or partial permanent dentures. There are different options for implants, however, and it is important to find which ones you can and cannot use for different procedures. Here at BiteLock, Dr. Pedro Francis can help you to find your perfect solution to meet your oral health and cosmetic goals. For many people, that is a whole new set of teeth.

What is a Zygomatic Dental Implant?

A zygomatic dental implant is a great alternative to our more traditional dental implants. These do not go into your jaw the way that most implants do. Instead, these long posts are surgically installed at an angle, going into your zygoma bone (or jawbone) instead. This makes them a universal option even to those with severely diminished bones after living with missing teeth for a long time.

Can These be Used with Fixed Dentures?

When most people think of full mouth reconstruction, or getting fixed dentures to replace all of their teeth, they think of the more traditional implants. This can leave many patients wondering if they can get them, due to bone loss or the inability to get a bone grafting procedure done. Luckily for them, they can! Zygomatic implants are a great and successful alternative to the more traditional, vertically placed implants. These less common counterparts require an angular placement and do not go into your jaw itself, which means that a bone graft is irrelevant. It opens the doors for a greater variety of patients to restore their smiles.

These implants can be used in conjunction with traditional implants to create a stable base for fixed dentures. The regular dentures provide a level of precision while these provide the stability that our patients seek. Rather than having to go in for graft, waiting through the healing period, then going for an implant just to have to heal again, these are unique in that they are a one-time deal. You go in for these implants, and you have the option of immediate loading, or the immediate receiving of new teeth, which you may not have the ability to do with other implants. No worries about grafts, and no waiting for implants to heal either.

These can also be used in situations where a traditional implant was the proposed route, but there was some maxillary defect which inhibited that. These can come to the rescue for nearly any problem in that area.

Dr. Pedro Franco and BiteLock are here to help you to find the best solution, whether you are dealing with moderate or severe bone loss or other inhibiting factors that can make traditional implants more challenging of an acquisition. We have years of experience, and our friendly staff can help you every step of the way. You tell us your goals, and we will get you there.
