Going day to day with pain in your jaw is no fun. It hurts, and that pain can distract you from doing the things you should be doing during the day. Some jaw pain is consistently around, while some comes and goes. If you struggle with pain in your jaw, know that there are a few things that you can do to help. Here are a few things that you can do regularly that allow your pain to decrease on a regular basis. Things to Do to Keep Your Pain AwayThere are relaxation exercises that can help keep jaw pain away. For example, simply resting your tongue on the roof of your mouth and letting your jaw open on its own, allows the muscles at the back of your jaw to relax on their own. This can decrease how much pain you are in on a regular basis. You can also change the foods you eat to reduce some of your jaw pain. Avoid eating hard foods that require a lot of chewing when your pain is present. This will only intensify the pain. Opt for softer foods on days where your jaw hurts so that you don't aggravate your pain and suffer more. Managing your stress can also help keep the pain down. When people get stressed out, they tend to hold that stress and tension in their jaw. The more stress you have, the more pain you have. By managing your stress, you can keep yourself more relaxed, which will loosen up your jaw joint, and keep your pain down. By doing these simple things, you can keep your jaw pain down. This can make life a bit easier. To figure out the cause of your jaw pain, come in and see us. |
