Wisdom teeth are those molars in the very back of your mouth that usually come in during the late teenage years. Your kids probably have many friends who have gone through wisdom teeth surgery, which in recent years has become routine. There are several signs you need wisdom tooth care, and it is essential that you take care of this before the problems become more dangerous, which can require emergency treatment. What is an Impacted Wisdom Tooth? An impacted wisdom tooth is very common in young adults. This condition happens because there is not enough room in the mouth for the tooth to come out like the rest of the teeth in your mouth. When wisdom teeth come in at an angle, either towards other molars or the back of the mouth, then the tooth can become impacted. The partially erupted tooth can put pressure on the adjacent tooth which causes pain. Signs of Wisdom Tooth Infection If gum tissue partially covers the tooth when it tries to come in, food particles can be stuck there and cause an infection that left untreated can cause serious problems. Some of the signs of a wisdom tooth infection are: X-rays can reveal the need for wisdom teeth surgery for a teenager. If you have been advised to schedule the procedure for your child and he or she is experiencing any of these symptoms, it could indicate the presence of an infection which needs to be treated as soon as possible.
