What is PRP?PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP is a development in dentistry that is helping us help you in countless new ways. PRP allows us to help you heal in a way we weren't able to before. This plasma is made from centrifuging your blood and helps us to access growth factors that induce healing. This, when used in wounds, helps to induce tissue regeneration specifically. More so than anyone else, this helps us to treat our aging patients. This helps us to stop bleeding and to develop soft tissue and help with bone regeneration and maturation. PRP has been used as a coating material after implants, and it has given promising results in tissue growth after the surgery.
How Does it Help With Implants?
Studies have shown time and time again that coating the implant in platelet-rich plasma before inserting it into the jaw has worked wonders. The PRP sticks to the metal and has the possibility to show biological activity between the implant and the bone and gums surrounding it. The results have been clear. PRP is highly effective when it comes to tissue regrowth and bone healing and regeneration. This new material can be used not only in implant surgeries but other oral surgeries as well and show equally promising results. However, implant surgery is unique in that it is the only surgery in which we can use PRP on its own rather than in collaboration with other materials to get the desired, or a similar, effect.

What is Platelet Rich Fibrin?
Platelet Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is a material that is being developed and used to promote the healing of wounds after or during a dental procedure. We get proof from centrifuging your blood to get and keep your cells, which will promote healing within the wounds that we make when operating on your mouth. PRF tries to collect platelets and to release growth factors that are secreted by your immune system to heal other cells. These factors, called cytokines, are used and immediately destroyed when healing a wound. The fibrin matrix in PRF makes it better than PRP, or platelet rich plasma, its commonly used counterpart.
Advantages of PRF
It is much more cost-effective than its counterpart, and there is no biochemical handling of the blood. This makes it better and safer for you and our staff. Because it is your blood, other foreign agents are not required to make it work. It has a slower polymerization than PRP, and so it heals better and heals more quickly. PRF also helps support your immune system! This is a huge bonus that is often expressed, as some medications can act as inhibitors rather than helping your immune system. While on the subject, it also helps hemostasis, and so it promotes clotting. This minimizes any risk that could be associated with too much bleeding.
What Can It Help?
PRF can help during bone augmentation and after the extraction of a tooth as well. It promotes tissue regrowth, healing, prevents bleeding, and also promotes bone regrowth. When using PRF, it accelerated the time it takes for someone who needed a bone augmentation to be ready for their implant. It shortened the time span significantly.
